Intermediate Taiko Class
This 6 week course is for individuals who have already taken Uminari Taiko classes and desire to advance their taiko skills beyond a basic level. Students will learn new rhythms, drills and be taught a song. Taiko form, hitting techniques and group ensemble playing (kumi) will be studied. The prerequisite is at least one series of classes with Uminari Taiko or previous taiko experience.

3 hour Beginner's Workshop
In our three-hour introductory workshop you will be shown the basics of taiko stance and technique and will learn a simple taiko piece. The workshop is a tremendously fun and energetic way to experience what it's like to play a taiko drum and is particularly suitable for people with little or no drumming experience. Note: unless you have previous taiko experience, this workshop is a pre-requisite for taking our 6-week class.

6 week Taiko Class
Our 6-week course is geared to those who wish to advance their knowledge of taiko beyond what was taught in the Beginner's workshop. In this course you will focus on learning the proper stance and technique, different taiko rhythms, the use of vocalizations, and the importance of movement in taiko. You will also learn to perform a more advanced taiko song as a member of an ensemble. Note: We require that you take our introductory workshop before trying this course, unless you have previous taiko experience.

Advanced Taiko Class
This 8 week course is for individuals who have already taken Uminari Taiko classes and desire to develop a higher level of competency in their Taiko skills. Students will learn more advanced rhythms, drills and a more challenging song. More rigor will be applied to taiko basics regarding stance and hitting technique. The class enrollment will be limited so that there will be greater individual attention. The prerequisite is at least two series of classes with Uminari Taiko or you have previous taiko experience.

In order to keep the student-to-teacher ratio high, we limit the number of participants in both the workshop and the course. Register early to ensure we have sufficient room. Please note, participation in the workshop does not automatically guarantee space in the course which is limited to a smaller number of participants than the workshop.

Refund Policy
Class:
Class registration withdrawal requests that are received one week prior to the start date of the class are eligible for a full refund. Requests received after that time will be credited to your next class registration.
Workshop:
Workshop refund requests are only eligible for credit. Credit expires one year from date of issue.
All refunds and credits are subject to Uminari Taiko approval.
