The VNCS Fall Fair is a touchstone for Uminari Taiko’s performance season, and this year it is that much more significant in that it marks ten years since the Katari Taiko workshop that served as the nexus around which Uminari Taiko coalesced. It was, of course, a pleasure to perform for this year’s crowd.  We have been busy into the autumn this year. Members of Uminari Taiko performed at the Victoria Marathon on Oct. 9, and we followed up our Fall Fair performance with a smaller show at St. Aidan’s Church. Performing upstairs where the congregation meet was a nice change from playing in the basement as we so often have for the annual Mochi Tskui Kai festivities.
We’ve very recently facilitated another introductory workshop and have launched another series of classes which will culminate on Dec 11th. As is our tradition, we’ll be hosting our annual open house from 4:00 – 6:00pm at Euro Studios, 1821 Cook St., 3F. Between now and then, we’ll be having our own workshop, the third this year, with Eien Hunter‐Ishikawa. Those of you who saw Eien perform with shakuhachi master, Alcvin Ramos, earlier this year know why it is such a privilege for us to learn from him.  If anyone has the inclination, Uzume Taiko will be performing as part of the Inter‐Cultural Association’s 40th Anniversary celebration. The celebration takes place from 2:00 ‐ 5:00pm on Dec. 4, 2011 at the Crystal Gardens on Douglas St. and features several other performance groups in addition to Uzume Taiko. Admission is free. If we don’t see you at Uzume’s performance on Dec. 4, we hope to see you at our open house on Dec. 11.  As always, more information can be had by contacting us at info(at) uminaritaiko.com.
